Lunch: 11 a.m. - 3 p.m., $14 plus tax or one meal swipe
Dinner: 5 p.m. - 8 p.m., $16 plus tax or one meal swipe
 
Dine with us on move-in day! The state-of-the-art dining room will span across two floors, offer over 1,000 seats and feature nine stations, including one designed for diners with food allergies. The Dining Room at the Commons will offer made-to-order, fresh meals. Parents can visit Campus Services in the Lavin-Bernick Center, Suite 107, to receive a complementary meal card to dine on us.

Celebrate the first day of classes in the Dining Room at the Commons! Enjoy a special menu featuring shrimp & grits, local beef sliders, and other stand-out items. A parent accompanying their student can dine with us for free — just visit Campus Services in the Lavin-Bernick Center, Suite 107, to receive your complementary meal card.

Joe Simon’s Jazz Band | Monday, August 26
Time: 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Location: Dining Room at the Commons (1st and 2nd Floors)

Enjoy the music of Joe Simon’s Jazz Band during lunch at the Dining Room in the Commons. Joe Simon and his band have played traditional New Orleans music for the past 40 years. Playing favorites from Louis Armstrong, Fats Domino, Al Hirt and plenty more, they have performed across the country for the likes of former Presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton, US Senators, New Orleans mayors, actors including Tom Hanks, Jim Carrey, Sandra Bullock and many more.

Join Tulane Dining Services for our first Guest Chef Takeover at the Chef’s Table featuring local chef Michael Gulotta of MOPHO, Maypop and Rum and the Lash! Chef Gulotta will demonstrate several cooking techniques, and guests will have the chance to sample some of his favorite dishes featured at his establishments. This event is included in your lunch entry to the Dining Room at the Commons.

Fridays at Newcomb | Friday, August 30

Join Newcomb Institute for our first Fridays at Newcomb of the semester! Fridays at Newcomb is a weekly lunch lecture series where students can connect with and learn from Tulane faculty and New Orleans community members. Our first speaker is Syrita Steib-Martin, the co-founder and Executive Director of Operation Restoration. Syrita successfully helped draft and pass Louisiana Act 276, which prohibits public post-secondary institutions in Louisiana from asking questions relating to criminal history for purposes of admissions, making Louisiana the first to pass this type of legislation.

Interested in learning more about the new Commons dining experience? Join this tour for a guided tour of the various food stations, learn about the various dietary accommodations and resources, and much more. Tours are available to students only and are limited to 25 students per 30-minute tour.

Progressive Tasting Tour for Faculty and Staff | Monday, September 16

Interested in learning more about the Commons Dining Rooms, viewing the new Newcomb Institute space, and checking out the updated lounge spaces around the Lavin-Bernick Center for University Life? Join us for a guided tasting tour for faculty and staff through all three spaces.

Tours are limited to 25 people per 60-minute tour starting at 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. in the LBC James Lounge.

The Commons

The Dedication of The Commons | Wednesday, September 18

Join President Michael A. Fitts and the Board of Tulane for the official Dedication of The Commons as we honor the generosity of the donors and supporters who helped make the vision of this campus space a reality. With tours showcasing the new home of the Newcomb Institute as well as the state-of-the-art campus dining facility, the event will feature the building’s dynamic spaces and views, its culinary capacity, and share the student experience with The Commons donors, alumni, and guests.
