Recognized Student Organizations (RSOs) and university departments play an important role in fostering connection, engagement, and involvement across campus. Tabling provides an opportunity to share information, recruit members, promote registered events and university initiatives, and engage with members of the university community.
These Guidelines explain how tabling spaces may be reserved and used.
These Guidelines apply equally to all tabling reservations.
Definition of Tabling & Tabling Organizer
- Tabling is the temporary use of a designated reservable table or booth space to engage with members of the university community.
- Tabling may be used to promote registered events or university initiatives, recruit members, distribute information, fundraise, host giveaways, or conduct sales for registered events.
- Tabling is intended to facilitate conversations and engagement at the table rather than function as an event, gathering, activity, or demonstration.
- A tabling organizer is the Recognized Student Organization (RSO) or university department responsible for planning, coordinating, and operating the tabling activity.
- The university may determine whether a proposed activity exceeds the scope of tabling and must instead follow the university's event registration or demonstration registration process.
Eligibility
- Tabling reservations may be made only by Recognized Student Organizations (RSOs) and university departments.
- Academic class projects are not eligible to reserve tabling space. Departments wishing to host a class-related activity should use the university's event registration process.
- Non-Tulane organizations, companies, vendors, and other unaffiliated entities are not eligible to reserve tabling space.
- Only representatives of the reserving RSO or university department may staff the tabling space during the reservation.
- RSOs and university departments may not reserve tabling space on behalf of an unaffiliated individual, group, organization, company, or vendor ("fronting").
- Activities requiring water, electricity, custodial support, animals, or other university event services are not permitted as part of tabling.
- The university may request additional information to determine whether an RSO or university department is serving as the primary organizer of the tabling activity.
Reservations
- Each RSO or university department may reserve one tabling location per day.
- Reservations must be submitted through EMS at least two business days, excluding weekends, before the requested reservation date. For example, a tabling reservation scheduled for Monday must be registered by the end of the preceding Wednesday, and a tabling reservation scheduled for Thursday must be registered by the end of the preceding Monday.
- Tabling reservations are available Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 4:30pm during the fall and spring semesters, except during designated study and final examination periods, university closures, designated campus events, or other periods identified by the university.
- Indoor rain locations may be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Locations
- The Lavin-Bernick Center for University Life (LBC) manages reservable indoor and outdoor tabling locations, including:
- LBC Indoor
- Berger Family Lawn Patio
- McAlister Way
- Percival Stern Breezeway
- The university may modify or relocate a tabling reservation based on safety, operational, scheduling, or weather considerations.
Use of Tabling Spaces
- Tabling materials must remain within the assigned tabling space.
- Amplified sound may be used only in accordance with the University's Sound Guidelines.
- Because tabling is intended to facilitate conversations and engagement at the table rather than function as an event or demonstration, sound - including amplified sound and any live or acoustic music - must be limited to the immediate vicinity of the table and support conversations at the table rather than function as event amplification or a performance.
- Activities involving amplified sound or live or acoustic music beyond conversational levels should be registered through the appropriate university event registration process rather than conducted as tabling.
- An organization representative must remain present for the duration of the reservation and serve as the primary point of contact for the university.
- Organizations are responsible for removing all materials and returning the tabling area to its original condition at the conclusion of the reservation.
Fundraising & Sales
- Fundraising, giveaways, food distribution, and sales conducted through tabling must comply with all applicable university policies and procedures.
Accountability
- Participants must comply with these Guidelines, all other applicable university policies, and the directions of university officials acting within the scope of their responsibilities.
- Failure to comply with these Guidelines or the directions of university officials may result in modification or termination of the reservation.
- Individuals and organizations that violate these Guidelines or other applicable university policies may be referred through the appropriate university processes.

- For questions about tabling, contact Ben Griffith, Assistant Director for Recognized Student Organizations, at bgriffith@tulane.edu or visit the Student Organization Center (SOC) in the Lavin-Bernick Center for University Life (LBC), Suite G11.
Applicability
- These Guidelines apply in conjunction with applicable university policies, procedures, guidelines, and standards, including the Code of Student Conduct and the Equal Opportunity/Non-Discrimination Policy.
Review & Revisions
- These Guidelines will be reviewed periodically and may be revised to reflect changes in university policy, operational needs, and best practices.
